Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Athletic Recovery

Chamber time has become a fixture in a lot of serious training schedules. What it involves, how people fit it around sessions, and what it costs.

Athletes who use hyperbaric time book 60 or 90 minute chamber sessions and treat them as a scheduled part of a training week rather than a one off. Wellness Origin publishes single sessions at $187 and $280.50, with packages up to 40 sessions. It is a wellness service in a day spa, not medical care.

Why chamber time shows up in training schedules

People who train seriously already schedule their recovery. Sleep is scheduled, food is scheduled, soft tissue work is scheduled. Hyperbaric time gets added to that list for the same reason compression boots and massage do: it is a fixed, low effort block in the week that requires nothing of you except showing up and lying still.

The mechanism is straightforward. A sealed chamber held above normal atmospheric pressure changes how readily oxygen dissolves into the blood, because gases go into solution more easily under pressure. That is the whole of the principle. What we will not do is tell you what it will produce for your training, because Wellness Origin is a day spa and not a medical clinic, and outcome claims are not ours to make.

Fitting a session around training

  1. Pick your day, not your mood

The people who get value out of chamber time book it as a standing appointment, the same way they book a lift. Ad hoc booking rarely turns into a series.

  2. Leave the gym clothes for the gym

Sessions require cotton clothing and no lotions, oils or jewelry, so plan a change if you are coming straight from training.

  3. Watch the four hour window

No alcohol and no carbonated drinks in the four hours before a session. Worth knowing if you use carbonated drinks around training.

  4. Choose 60 or 90 minutes

The 60 minute session slots either side of a working day. The 90 minute session is more common among people already deep into a package.

  5. Stack it with compression

Plenty of clients pair chamber time with NormaTec lymphatic compression, published at $47 for a 30 minute session, in the same visit.

Who is actually in the chamber

The mix at our Carmel location is wide. Runners and cyclists in the middle of a build. Lifters in a heavy block. People playing competitive team sports in their thirties and forties who are no longer able to train through everything the way they once could. Coaches. And a fair number of people who would not call themselves athletes at all but who train five or six days a week and take it seriously.

What they have in common is not a sport, it is a schedule. Chamber time is a commitment of an hour, repeated. That is why the pricing ladder runs out to 40 sessions and why we suggest booking the whole block into the calendar at once rather than session by session.

Before your first session you will talk with our team, and if you have any ongoing health concern, talk to your own physician as well. We do not diagnose, we do not treat and we do not clear anyone for anything.

Questions

Common questions

How soon after a hard session can I use the chamber?

There is no published waiting period, and the practical constraints are the preparation rules rather than your training: cotton clothing, no lotions or jewelry, and no alcohol or carbonated drinks in the preceding four hours. Plenty of clients come in on the same day as a session. Talk it through with our team at your consultation.

Should I book 60 or 90 minutes?

Start with 60. It is the cheaper way to find out how you get on with a chamber, it fits either side of a working day, and nothing about our pricing penalises starting small. Clients who move to 90 minute sessions usually do so once they are running a series and would rather come in fewer times.

Can I combine hyperbaric with compression in one visit?

Yes, and many clients do. NormaTec lymphatic compression is published at $47 for a 30 minute session on legs, hips or arms. Ask the front desk to schedule them back to back when you book so the rooms line up.

Is this the same thing pro teams use?

We cannot speak for other facilities or for what any team does. What we can describe is our own service: 60 or 90 minute sessions in our chamber at our Carmel location, operated by our team, in a day spa setting rather than a clinical one. If you want to compare us to another provider, ask both of us for chamber make, model and session pressure.

Do I need clearance to book?

We require a consultation with our team before a first session. We do not provide medical clearance and we do not assess whether hyperbaric time is appropriate for your health, because we are not a medical clinic. If you have any ongoing health concern, speak with your own physician first.
