Deep Tissue Massage
Slower, firmer and more specific than a relaxation massage. For people who finish a Swedish session wishing the therapist had leaned in.
Deep tissue massage uses deeper pressure and slower strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, rather than working broadly across the surface. Organic oils are used throughout. It is chosen most often by people who train hard or who sit at a desk all day. Sessions are 60 minutes at $98 or 90 minutes at $144.
What a session looks like
Tell your therapist where and how much
The consultation at the start matters more here than in any other massage. Name the specific areas, and be honest about the pressure you actually want rather than the pressure you think you should want.
Warm up first
Almost every deep tissue session opens with broader, lighter work. Going straight to firm pressure on cold tissue is unpleasant and unproductive.
Slow, specific work
The therapist slows the stroke rate and works along the fibre rather than skimming across it, staying with an area rather than passing over it. Organic oils are used throughout.
Keep talking
Firm is not the same as painful. If you are holding your breath or bracing, say so. The pressure is adjusted in real time.
Afterward
Get up slowly and drink water. Some people feel worked on for a day afterward, in the way you do after a hard training session.
Who books deep tissue
Two groups, mostly. People who train hard and are on their feet or under load several days a week, and people who spend eight hours a day at a keyboard with their shoulders somewhere around their ears. Both end up with the same conversation on the table, which is about upper back, neck and shoulders.
The third group is smaller but consistent: people who have booked relaxation massages for years and quietly found them unsatisfying. If you have ever finished a session thinking that was pleasant but nothing much happened, deep tissue is the booking to try next.
Wellness Origin is a day spa, not a medical clinic. We do not diagnose or treat anything. Deep tissue massage here is comfort work, and if you have a specific physical concern you should raise it with your physician as well as with your therapist.

Getting more out of a deep tissue booking
- Book 90 minutes if you have more than one area you want addressed. Sixty minutes and three problem regions means none of them get proper time.
- Hydrate before and after.
- Do not book it immediately before something you need to be sharp for.
- Give feedback during, not after. A session you endured silently helps nobody.
- Consider a 3 or 6 session package. Deep tissue tends to reward repeat visits with the same therapist, who then already knows your back.

Questions
Common questions
Is deep tissue massage supposed to hurt?
No. Firm is not the same as painful. There is a working range where pressure feels productive and you can still breathe normally, and there is a point past it where you tense up and the therapist can no longer get anywhere. Speak up in the moment and the pressure will be adjusted. A session you spent bracing against was not a good session.
How is it different from Swedish massage?
Swedish uses light to medium pressure with long gliding strokes, kneading and circular movement across the whole body. Deep tissue slows the pace and increases the pressure to work into deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, spending longer in fewer places. Both are priced the same here, at $98 for 60 minutes and $144 for 90.
Will I be sore the next day?
Some people are, in the way you might be after an unfamiliar workout, and it usually settles within a day. Drinking water and moving normally helps. If soreness feels like anything other than that, contact your physician, since we are a day spa and cannot assess it for you.
Can I ask for one area only?
Yes. Plenty of clients book 60 minutes and ask for the entire session on back, neck and shoulders. Tell your therapist at the start of the session rather than at the end. If you want more than one region covered properly, book the 90 minute session at $144.
Do you use organic products?
Yes. Organic oils are used in deep tissue sessions, and organic products are used across our massage menu. If you have a known sensitivity to any ingredient, tell your therapist during the pre session consultation rather than once the session is under way, and they will work around it or use an alternative.
