Prenatal Massage
An hour that is genuinely comfortable, with positioning and support built around a changing body. Sixty minutes, $108.
Prenatal massage at Wellness Origin is a 60 minute session designed to promote relaxation during pregnancy, focused on providing comfort and support to the expectant mother. Positioning, bolstering and pressure are all adapted. It is published at $108. A consultation before booking is required, and we ask that you have your physician's guidance first.
What changes compared with a regular massage
Three things: how you lie, how you are supported, and how firmly the therapist works. Rather than lying flat face down, prenatal clients are positioned with bolstering and cushions so that the session is comfortable for a full hour. Your therapist will set you up and check that the position genuinely works before starting, and will reposition partway through if you want.
Pressure is moderated, and certain areas are approached differently or left alone. The session is built around comfort rather than around working into anything, which is the honest description of the whole service. If you are used to booking deep tissue, this will feel like a different service, because it is one.
Before you book
Talk to your physician or midwife first
We are a day spa, not a medical clinic. We do not diagnose, we do not treat and we do not clear anyone for anything. Your care provider is the person to ask whether massage is appropriate for you at this stage.
Tell us when you book
Let the front desk know at the time of booking rather than on arrival, so the room is set up correctly and enough time is allowed.
Consultation with your therapist
A short conversation before the session about positioning, comfort, areas to avoid and anything your care provider has told you.
Arrive 15 minutes early
Setup for a prenatal session takes longer than for a standard massage, and the appointment time is the appointment time.
Say something the moment anything is uncomfortable
Comfort is the entire point of the session. There is nothing to tough out here.

What we will and will not say about it
We will say what the session is: an hour of gentle, well supported massage intended to be relaxing and comfortable. That is exactly how the service is described and it is all we are willing to promise.
We will not tell you that prenatal massage does anything for your pregnancy, because Wellness Origin is a day spa rather than a medical clinic and those claims are not ours to make. Anyone telling you otherwise on a spa website is overreaching. Your physician or midwife is the correct source for any question about whether massage is appropriate for you, and at what point in your pregnancy.
If your care provider has given you specific instructions, bring them. Our therapists would far rather work within a clear boundary than guess at one.

Questions
Common questions
Do I need my doctor's approval before booking?
We ask that you have spoken with your physician or midwife first. We do not require paperwork and we cannot assess whether massage is appropriate for you, because we are a day spa and do not diagnose or treat. If your care provider has given you specific guidance, tell your therapist during the pre session consultation.
How will I be positioned?
Side lying, with bolstering and cushions arranged to support you comfortably for the full hour. Your therapist sets the position with you before starting and will adjust or reposition you partway through if anything stops being comfortable. Lying flat face down is not part of a prenatal session.
How long is the session and what does it cost?
Sixty minutes at $108, as published on our menu. Only the single 60 minute session is currently published, so if you want a longer appointment or a block of sessions, call (317) 979-1234 and we will confirm what is available.
Is there anything you will not do in a prenatal session?
Yes. Pressure is moderated throughout, positioning is different from a standard massage, and certain areas are approached differently or avoided altogether. Your therapist will explain the specifics during your consultation, and they will also work within any instruction your physician or midwife has given you. Bring that guidance with you if you have it.
Can I book prenatal massage alongside other services?
Ask the front desk when you book. Several services on our menu carry their own consultation requirements or are not recommended during pregnancy, body contouring being one of them, so we will go through your booking with you rather than letting you assemble it blind online.
