Red Light Therapy
One of the most searched wellness terms in the country, and one of the most oversold. Here is what red light therapy is, and exactly where it sits on our menu.
Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of red light applied to the skin. At Wellness Origin it is one of four modalities delivered inside the combined one hour body contouring session, alongside lipo cavitation, radio frequency contouring and cupping. That session is published at $125 and focuses on one area.
What red light therapy actually is
Red light therapy means exposing the skin to light at specific wavelengths within the red part of the visible spectrum. A panel or applicator emits that light, the skin is exposed to it for a period of time, and that is the mechanism in full. There is no heat to speak of, no ultraviolet component, no sensation beyond seeing red light, and nothing is applied to or injected into you.
The wavelength is the variable that matters. Devices sold as red light therapy differ in the wavelengths they emit, in output, and in how far the light is from the skin. Any honest comparison between providers or between home devices comes down to those numbers rather than to how impressive the room looks.
Why our page is shorter on promises than most
Red light therapy is one of the most heavily searched wellness terms in the United States, and the volume of claims attached to it online is extraordinary. You will find pages asserting outcomes for skin, for training, for sleep, for mood and for a long list of conditions.
We are not going to add to that. Wellness Origin is a day spa, not a medical clinic. We do not diagnose, we do not treat and we do not make claims about what any treatment on our menu produces. What we will tell you is precisely what the modality is, precisely where it appears on our menu, precisely how long the session is and precisely what it costs. If that is less exciting than the page you read before this one, the difference is that everything here is verifiable.
If you are researching red light therapy in connection with a health concern, the person to speak to is your physician. That is not a deflection, it is the correct answer.

What the session looks like
Consultation first
Required before a first body contouring session. You will be asked about medical conditions and any implanted devices.
Pick your area of focus
The hour is built around one area. Your technician will help you choose rather than splitting the session across three.
Lipo cavitation
Low frequency sound waves applied to the targeted area, creating vibration within it.
Radio frequency contouring
Radio frequency energy applied to the skin, delivering controlled heat. Comfortable warmth is the target.
Cupping
Cups placed on the skin to create suction and a localized change in pressure. Temporary circular marks are normal.
Red light therapy
Specific wavelengths of red light applied to the skin. Nothing to feel, nothing to do.
Practical notes before you book
- Body contouring is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- It is not recommended for individuals with implanted devices such as pacemakers or insulin pumps.
- It is not recommended for individuals with a seizure disorder.
- Disclose any medical conditions during your consultation.
- Expect temporary circular marks from the cupping portion of the session.
- Wear comfortable clothing and drink water afterward.
Questions
Common questions
What is red light therapy?
It is the exposure of skin to specific wavelengths of light in the red part of the visible spectrum. There is no ultraviolet component and effectively no heat. At Wellness Origin it is delivered as one of four modalities inside the combined one hour body contouring session, published at $125.
Can I book red light therapy on its own?
It is currently published only as part of the combined body contouring session. Call (317) 979-1234 and the front desk will tell you exactly what can be scheduled.
What is red light therapy good for?
We will not answer that with a claim. Wellness Origin is a day spa rather than a medical clinic, we do not diagnose or treat anything, and outcome claims are not ours to make. What we can describe is the mechanism, the session and the price, which is what this page does. Health questions belong with your physician.
Does it feel like anything?
Not really. You see red light and you may notice very mild warmth. There is no discomfort, no downtime and nothing to recover from. Within the combined session, the parts you are more likely to notice are the warmth during radio frequency and the suction during cupping.
How many sessions do people book?
Body contouring packages are published at 3, 6, 9 and 12 sessions, from $335 up to $1230. Your technician will discuss a realistic plan at consultation. All services expire one year from the date of purchase and service purchases are non refundable.
