Dermaplaning Facial
A blade, held flat, drawn across the skin. Alarming to describe and completely painless in practice.
Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical scalpel held at an angle to gently shave the surface of the skin, removing dead cells and the fine vellus hair often called peach fuzz. The result is smoother texture, better product absorption and makeup that sits more evenly. It includes a customized facial and is published at $125.

What actually happens
Your esthetician holds a sterile surgical scalpel at a shallow angle against taut skin and draws it across the surface in short strokes. It removes the layer of dead cells sitting on top and takes the fine vellus hair with it. There is no cutting, no pressure and no downtime, and the sensation is closest to a very light scraping.
Two things follow from that. First, texture changes immediately, and skin feels noticeably smoother the same day. Second, because you have removed the barrier of dead cells, everything you apply afterward absorbs better, which is why dermaplaning is a common first step before other treatments and why the session here includes a customized facial rather than ending at the blade.
What a session looks like
Consultation
Your esthetician assesses your skin and confirms dermaplaning suits it that day. Active irritation on the skin is a reason to reschedule and we will say so.
Cleanse and prepare
Skin is thoroughly cleansed and dried, since the technique needs a clean, dry, taut surface to work on.
The passes
Short, controlled strokes across the face in sections, working around the contours. Painless for almost everyone.
The customized facial
The rest of the appointment is a facial built for your skin, taking advantage of the improved absorption immediately after dermaplaning.
Sun protection
Freshly dermaplaned skin should be protected. Your esthetician will tell you exactly what to use and when.
The peach fuzz question, answered properly
The single most common question we get is whether the hair grows back thicker or darker. It does not. Vellus hair is fine, soft, unpigmented hair, and it grows back exactly as it was, because shaving does not change the follicle. What changes is your perception in the first day or two as it returns, which is a texture impression rather than an actual change in the hair.
The second most common question is whether it is worth booking if you do not have much facial hair. Usually yes, because the exfoliation is the main event and the hair removal is a side effect. Skin looks brighter, makeup sits flatter, and serums stop sitting on the surface.
Wellness Origin is a day spa. Dermaplaning here is a cosmetic exfoliation treatment, not a medical procedure. We do not diagnose or treat any skin condition. Tell your esthetician about any prescription topical you use, and about anything currently irritated, before the session begins.

Questions
Common questions
Does the hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. The fine vellus hair removed during dermaplaning grows back exactly as it was, because shaving does not alter the follicle or the hair's colour and thickness. What people sometimes notice is a slightly different texture impression as it returns, which is not the same as the hair having changed.
What is the difference between dermaplaning and microdermabrasion?
Both are exfoliation, delivered differently. Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical scalpel to shave off dead cells and fine hair. Microdermabrasion delicately removes dead cells across the surface without a blade and without harsh chemicals. Dermaplaning is $125 here, microdermabrasion is $98. Your esthetician will tell you which suits your skin at your assessment.
Is it painful?
Almost nobody finds it painful. The blade is held flat against taut skin and drawn in short strokes, and the sensation is closest to light scraping. There is no downtime and no recovery period, which is why it is a common booking before an event.
How often can I have it done?
Our packages are built at three and six sessions, $328 and $628, which reflects how most regular clients book it. The interval that suits you is set by your esthetician at your assessment, based on your skin rather than on a fixed rule, and it may change with the season or with what else you have booked.
Can I wear makeup afterward?
Skin is freshly exfoliated, so your esthetician's advice for that day takes priority. In general, people find makeup applies more evenly after dermaplaning, and sun protection matters more than usual. Ask for specific aftercare at the end of your appointment.
