High Frequency Facial Treatments
The glass electrode and the faint violet glow. What high frequency actually is, the two versions we offer, and how to choose between them.
A high frequency facial uses a gas filled glass electrode passed over the skin to deliver a gentle electrical current. Wellness Origin offers two versions: the Anti Aging Facial, using a neon filled tube with a red or orange glow, and the Clarifying Facial, using an argon filled tube with a violet blue glow. Both are $147.
What is a high frequency facial?
High frequency is one of the oldest pieces of equipment in professional skincare and it is still in use for a simple reason: it is gentle, non invasive and has essentially no downtime. A glass electrode filled with an inert gas is passed lightly over the skin. Current flows through the gas, which is what produces the characteristic glow, and a mild electrical current is delivered at the skin surface.
The colour of the glow tells you which gas is inside the tube, and that is the actual difference between the two versions we offer. Neon glows red or orange. Argon glows violet blue. They are used for different purposes, and your esthetician will discuss which suits your skin, but you select the version you want when booking online, so it is worth understanding the distinction before you get to the booking screen.

The anti aging version
This version uses the neon filled electrode, the one with the warm red or orange glow. It is worked over the skin to stimulate oxygenated blood flow and to enhance how well serums penetrate, which is why it is normally used in combination with products rather than on its own. The two effects are related: skin that has been warmed and stimulated takes up what is applied to it more readily than skin that has not.
Clients who book this version are typically already running a routine at home and looking to get more out of their products, or are looking for a session with no downtime that can be booked close to an event. It sits comfortably alongside our other facials and appears on the esthetics add on list as well.
The clarifying version
This version uses the argon filled electrode with the violet blue glow. It is used on skin that tends toward congestion and on the appearance of enlarged pores, and it is the version most often chosen by people with oilier skin.
We are deliberately describing what the electrode is and how it is used rather than what it will do for you. Wellness Origin is a day spa, not a medical clinic. We do not diagnose or treat any skin condition, and we do not make claims about outcomes. If your skin concern is something you would take to a doctor, please take it to a doctor. If you want a gentle, non invasive facial treatment with no downtime, this is a straightforward one to book.

Questions
Common questions
What is a high frequency facial?
It is a facial treatment using a gas filled glass electrode passed over the skin to deliver a gentle electrical current at the surface. It is non invasive with minimal downtime. Wellness Origin offers two versions, an anti aging option using a neon filled tube and a clarifying option using an argon filled tube, both at $147.
What is the difference between the red and the violet electrode?
The gas inside the tube. Neon produces a red or orange glow and is used in the anti aging version to stimulate oxygenated blood flow and enhance serum penetration. Argon produces a violet blue glow and is used in the clarifying version on surface impurities and the appearance of enlarged pores.
Which version should I book?
You select one when booking online, and your esthetician will confirm at your assessment whether it suits your skin. As a rough guide, the clarifying version is chosen more often by people with oilier, congested skin and the anti aging version by people looking to get more out of their serums. They cost the same.
Does it hurt?
No. Most people report a faint tingling and mild warmth where the electrode passes, along with a slight audible buzz from the device. It is one of the most comfortable treatments on our facial menu, and there is minimal downtime afterward.
Can high frequency be added to another facial?
Yes, it appears on our esthetics add on list alongside dermaplaning, LED mask, ultrasound and others. Add on prices are not currently published, so call (317) 979-1234 and we will price the combination for you.
How many sessions do people book?
Regular treatments are how most clients use it, which is why the packages are built at three and six sessions, $397 and $749. Your esthetician will suggest an interval at your assessment based on your skin and on what else you have booked.
